Call to Order
The Chair, Beverly Howell (Mississippi) called the meeting to order. M. Jean Baldwin, secretary, called the roll. The above listed members participated in the call. The minutes from the spring meeting were approved as written.

Comments from Mary McPhail Gray
Gray congratulated the region on the kind of things that we are doing and our commitment to meet two times a year. We were commended for our politically strategic work around the role of FCS and the university. The meeting with the southern directors was a very positive truth sharing session. The directors talked about the fact that it is very important for them to be aware of, be involved in, and be good participants in negotiations relative to the food stamp and nutrition education program. The directors are very concerned about the fact that the southeast region is obviously taking the longest to approve.

For the last three years, a national committee has been looking at six of the primary Extension programs. Subcommittees are working on each of these areas. The six areas are: (1) child care and youth care, (2) housing and environment, (3) financial security, (4) parenting, (5) human nutrition, and (6) food safety. As a whole community nationally, we need to find some more ways to articulate research needs and be very assertive about those needs in two areas - in our relationship with the Board of Human Science and with the national research in CSREES.

Advisors' Update - Margaret Hale
Hale and Ron Brown are conducting an Impact Evaluation Inventory with Extension directors in the southern region. The survey is looking at the capacity of individuals within their states to help or be a part of this effort.

FSNEP Framework Proposal
The FSNEP team wants everyone to know how important our comments are on the proposed framework. We need to get with the FSNEP program director and consolidate comments in a state report. Comments should come from the state Cooperative Extension team.

Agenda for August FCS Program Leaders Meeting
Beverly Howell agreed to send out agenda items via e-mail. Everyone needs to provide feedback on the agenda to make sure that we are addressing important issues.

State Updates
State updates will be given at our August meeting.
