SOUTHERN REGION EXTENSION FORESTRY WORKSHOP

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

  • Bring together Extension forestry and natural resource specialists and agents to discuss mulit-state and regional programming issues and opportunities.
  • Professional development in the fields of forest management, wood products, wildlife, environmental education and related disciplines.

SUMMARY OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • a. Master Tree Farmer I and II
  • b. Forest Certification satellite program
  • c. Urban & Community forestry satellite program
  • d. Numerous continuing education activities including GIS and IMPLAN training courses for Extension specialists and natural resource professionals.
  • e. Southern Hardwood Management manual

CURRENT/ RECENT PROJECTS:

  • a. Planning for triennial in Asheville, North Carolina – May 2003
  • b. Forestry curriculum project
  • c. Planning for Master Wildlifer program

STATES REPRESENTED AT THE MEETINGS:

All 13 States

OTHER DISCIPLINES WHICH PARTICIPATE:

All natural resource related disciplines. Some environmental management related disciplines.

Full 2-3 day meeting every 3 years, meet annually at Southern Forestry Conference for .5 to 1 day.
