2001-2002 Annual Reports

SOUTHERN REGION EXTENSION EQUINE COMMITTEE REPORT

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

  • Preparation and dissemination of educational materials related to equine.
  • 4-H and youth development plus coordination of Southern Regional Horse Show Championships.

SUMMARY OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

  • 2002 Southern Regional Horse Show was successfully held in Memphis, Tennessee. Over 2000 entries were recorded. Dr. Doyle Meadows of the University of Tennessee served as host for this event.
  • The pooling of educational information from each state into one large database.

CURRENT/ RECENT PROJECTS:

  • The building of one large database of educational materials relating to horses.
  • Submission and awarding of a grant for $45,000 to develop an Equine Knowledge Base. This electronic knowledge base can have many implications for future educational purposes.

OTHER DISCIPLINES WHICH PARTICIPATE:

An assortment of many diverse disciplines will have an opportunity to assist in educational materials.
