ARKANSAS

1. Significant Activities/Program Highlights

    • Continued excellent funding of Extension and Research projects from Promotion Boards - Rice, Soybeans, Wheat, Corn/Sorghum
    • Conducted two-day row crop training for crop consultants
    • Cooperated with Louisiana and Mississippi 1890's and 1862's in Extension and Research to propose funding from Section 401 funds
    • Submitted funding proposals for Section 406 Water Quality funds
    • Helped Southern Region Pesticide Impact Assessment Coordinators submit a regional funding proposal for Section 406 funding
  1. New Initiative/Thrusts
    • Began "Future of Mid-South Agriculture" conference and multi-state programming to address changes in structure of agriculture, risk management, etc. - partnered with Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana and now Kentucky
    • Cooperating with NRCS and Extension from seven states on the Lower Mississippi Valley Initiative
  1. Administrative Changes
    • Associate Vice President - Extension, Dr. David Foster, moves to Oklahoma State University.
    • Dr. David Hensley on board as Horticulture Department Section Leader and Head. Associate Director, Dorothy Hall, retired.
    • Dr. Ivory Lyles announced to fill Associate Vice President - Extension position October, 1, 2000.

    • Water Quantity and Quality in agricultural area of eastern Arkansas
    • Potential changing structure of agriculture and the impact on the farm enterprises
    • Citizen initiative to eliminate property taxes
  1. New Partners
    • Multi-state Extension partnership
